NEW: Group Calls on NEA Leader to Fire Top Officials
Wednesday, August 17, 2011
The Rhode Island Statewide Coalition is calling on the leader of the state NEA to dismiss top officials in his organization, citing what it described as a pattern of harassment against state lawmakers and a journalist.
“RISC believes NEARI Executive Director Robert Walsh must recognize the time has come to take decisive action against top NEARI officials tied to multiple incidents of harassment,” said RISC Executive Director Harriet Lloyd. (Walsh is pictured at left.)
Recently, a top NEA official, Louis Rainone, was involved in two alleged incidents of harassment this summer during a trial for another NEA official, John Liedecker, charged with the cyber harassment of former Bristol Rep. Doug Gablinske.
“It’s disgraceful that the largest teachers’ union in Rhode Island is represented by men who display thuggish behavior toward anyone who dares to challenge their power, their policies, and their tactics,” Lloyd added. “The public can only conclude the recent courthouse harassment activities of Louis Rainone are condoned by Bob Walsh unless and until he uses his authority to demonstrate that intimidation tactics by NEARI top officials will not be tolerated.”
