NEW: Governor Chafee To Announce CCRI Energy Utility Program

The Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) will launch a new Energy Utility Certificate program that will help create a more dynamic workforce, according to the college and Governor Lincoln Chafee.
An event announcing the program at CCRI’s Warwick campus was postponed this afternoon.
With the aid of National grid Director of Community and Consumer Management John Isberg and Governor Lincoln Chafee, CCRI will run the program, which is meant to prepare its participants for highly skilled electrical distribution and transmission work.

The program is made possible by a total $910,000 donations and grants from CCRI, National Grid and the Federal Government.
One-third of graduates of a similar program in Massachusetts found employment with National Grid while many others found high paying jobs in the energy industry, according to a media advisory issued by the Governor’s office.
