Rhode Island College will host a forum entitled “Politics as Entertainment – Where Should the Media Draw the Line?” on Thursday, October 13. The forum – presented by the American Democracy Project (ADP), a campus initiative promoting political engagement – will take place from 11 am to 1 pm in Alger Hall.

Hosted by NBC-10's Gene Valicente, the panel includes WPRO Talk Radio host Vincent “Buddy Cianci, Providence Journal Columnist Mark Patinkin, WRNI political analyst Scott McKay, GoLocalProv.com news editor Dan McGowan, Citadel program director Bill Hess, and CBS radio/Boston content director Tim Staskiewicz. Panelists will discuss the shift of political reporting from sound bites to today’s 24-hour instant headlines, and what can be done to ensure that political coverage is more than just entertainment. They will touch upon their experiences dealing with politicians and the decisions they’ve had to make to while covering campaigns.

The forum, free and open to the public, is the first in a series of high-profile panel discussions, candidate debates and forums that RIC will host this fall, heading into the 2012 campaign season.
