NEW: Gemma Down Double Digits in New Poll

Incumbent Congressman David Cicilline holds a double-digit lead over Democratic challenger Anthony Gemma as the two race toward the Sept. 11 primary, according to new WPRI poll.
The survey of 302 likely primary voters shows Cicilline with a 43-31 lead and gives the Congressman a significant lead among women (46.8-29.7) and young people (48.5-25.8). The Congressman has a job approval of 40.4 percent, according to the poll.
Gemma meanwhile is close among households (trailing by just 4 percentage points) and voters ages 40-58, where he find himself down six points. Still, despite finishing second to Cicilline in 2010, fewer than 48 percent of voters say they don’t know much about him.

The winner of the Democratic primary will take on Republican Congressional candidate Brendan Doherty.
