NEW: Gately Wants Bus Services Privatized in Cranston
Wednesday, October 03, 2012
State Senate candidate Sean Gately (D-27) is calling on his Democratic opponent Frank Lombardi to support privatizing bus services in Cranston.
Gately claims Lombardi, who serves as Vice Chairman of the School Committee, will not support the plan because he has accepted campaign contributions from the bus driver’s union.
According to Gately, the Cranston Public Schools Transportation Subcommittee recently issued report suggesting that Cranston schools can save $8.5 million over 10 years by having its busing operation operated by a private sector company.

I call upon him to have the School Committee hold a special hearing on this issue before the November election. The people deserve to know now if Mr. Lombardi will put the interests of the taxpayers before the special interests. This is the third instance of him taking money from bargaining units and vendors of the city. The taxpayers need results, not excuses.”
