Providence Firefighters will picket an Elorza fundraiser downtown Monday evening.

The President of the Providence Firefighters Union announced Monday that members will picket outside of Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza’s fundraiser at IGT (GTEC) at 5:30 p.m.

“We’ll probably get a 100 or so,” said Paul Doughty with the Local 799, of how many firefighters and supporters he expects, as the firefighters continue to bring attention to the legal battle over Elorza's platoon shift.

“Our main concern now in addition to the contract violations is the mismanagement of city budget,” said Doughty. "[Elorza] has flat out not answered where he'll come up with the money if they lose. North Kingstown has an escrow account, which is the prudent thing to do.  He keeps doubling down -- as long as you're still playing, you technically haven't lost.  Until you owe the house."

Doughty spoke to the legal developments forthcoming.

"The city filed a notice of appeal and a motion to stay, that hearing is November 10th," said Doughty. 'That would stay the upcoming arbitration, which starts in Decembe. There are several grievances we filed. But that's one of the bigger ones."
