A 2013 survey of college administrators conducted by U.S. News & World Report ranked several New England colleges near the top when it comes to undergraduate teaching.

The survey compiled separate lists of top national universities, liberal arts colleges, and regional universities, with New England schools represented in all three categories. Rhode Island received two of New England's eight mentions, with Providence's Brown University ranked ninth among nationally competitive universities, and Providence College placing second on the list of private regional universities.
