NEW: Doherty Scoops Up U.S. Chamber of Commerce Endorsement

Thursday, May 03, 2012

The United States Chamber of Commerce has endorsed the candidacy of Brendan Doherty, Republican candidate for Congress from Rhode Island’s First District.

“Brendan Doherty is one of the first six congressional challengers that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed. We are ecstatic to support a candidate who understands what needs to be done to create an economic environment that will support job creation in Rhode Island,” said Chamber Senior Vice President and National Political Director Rob Engstrom.

“With one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation, it is clear that Rhode Island needs a leader who will fight through the gridlock and work to build support for practical solutions that will get Rhode Island’s economy on the right track,” continued Engstrom. “Brendan Doherty has shown that he is committed to reducing the burdens on Rhode Island’s small businesses so that they can be free to succeed and create well-paying jobs.”

In the 2010 elections, 236 of the 276 Chamber-endorsed candidates were elected to office.

“I am extremely pleased to have received the endorsement of the United States Chamber of Commerce,” stated Doherty. “Rhode Island was the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution and I am committed to promoting pro-growth policies in Congress that will empower our small businesses and entrepreneurs to bring a new dawn of economic expansion to our great state.”
