NEW: Doherty Pledges to Reject Efforts to Cut Benefits for Seniors

Monday, September 24, 2012

Republican Congressional candidate Brendan Doherty today pledged to reject any effort to cut “Social Security and Medicare benefits” for senior citizens and accused incumbent Congressman David Cicilline of spreading misinformation about his stance on the issue.

“I have offered my commitment time and again throughout this campaign, but unfortunately my opponent and his political operatives continue to misrepresent my position and falsely accuse me of a secret plan to cut Social Security and Medicare. This is just not true,” Doherty said.

Doherty’s comments came during a morning press conference in East Providence. He maintains that he is opposed to any plan to replace Medicare with a voucher system and called for a bipartisan approach to addressing the issue.

The Republican ripped Cicilline for using “scare tactics” to deceive voters about his positons.

And what does the gloved one have to say about pensions? You know, like the one he has and has not paid a dime towards? Anyone on the crack reporting team ask him that or are we finished with the pension issue????

Michael Trenn

Mr. Brady: These career politicians that we have "representing" us will also get a taxpayer funded annual kiss. All except Chi Chi, who has not yet served six years. Perhaps this is why all these famous liberals had zero point zero to say about our pension issues. Why don't you ask them about it? At least Col. Doherty took risks for us.

Joseph Bernstein

Col.Doherty receives his pension according to the rules in existence at the time he was employed. What's the problem with that?I wonder if Cicilline declared all the narcotics derived money he made defending the destroyers of society? It's a cash and carry business-so who knows?

Michael Napolitano

Brendan Doherty pledges not to cut benefits to seniors and even makes a point to draw attention to this fact with a press conference. David Cicilline, then counters with his same old tactic informing voters that it doesn't matter and those evil Republicans have already cut benefits to seniors and will continue to do so. What David Cicilline is leaving out is the $700 billion dollar cut to Medicaid that is in the Obama health care plan. It is the Democrats that have cut benefits to seniors.

Who do you trust? The man who ran the RI State Police, or the man who lied about the financial situation and Providence and earned his living as a mob lawyer prior to politics?

David Cicilline will say anything to get elected even if it isn’t true. What have he and his fellow Democrats really done for RI? We are ranked at or near the bottom in most every category and the Democrats control 90% of the seats in the General Assembly and all 4 seats in Washington. Have you had enough yet?
