NEW: Diossa Picks Up Major Endorsement in Central Falls Mayor’s Race

Friday, October 12, 2012

Senator Elizabeth "Betty" Crowley today officially announced her endorsement of City Councilman James A. Diossa for Mayor of Central Falls.

In a letter to Central Falls voters, Senator Crowley said that her city is "at a critical crossroads" and in need of "a Mayor who will move the city forward, not backward."

"That’s why I am supporting James Diossa for Mayor," Crowley wrote. "James has a plan to run an honest city government, create good jobs, strengthen our schools and make our streets clean and safe again... I trust him to move us forward."

"I am thrilled to have won the trust, support and endorsement of Senator Crowley," said Diossa. "We are both Central Falls High School graduates and proud 'Warriors' and I have always admired her tireless commitment in her four decades of service to our great city. Together, we will bring a new, bright future to our city of Central Falls."

If former Mayor Moreau decides to run for higher office, will Mayor Diossa support him?

That's what his mentor Mayor Taveras did when the corrupt former Mayor Cicilline ran for higher office. So much for us who supported him because we thought he would clean up the mess Cicilline left.

Oh well, I guess once in they all can't resist the lure of corruption.

His city just came out of bankruptcy and he was on the city council. I'm amazed that anyone would want to bring back any part of the old regime that ran the city into the ground.

Joseph Davis

That's why it makes many Taveras supporters surprised that he supports David Cicilline for anything.

We thought he would shun Cicilline for bringing our city to the brink of bankruptcy. Now two years later he is actually supporting Cicilline.

Still love him, still support him...but shame on him for siding with Cicilline instead of the people who put him in office.

And I wanted to make the point that it would be as ridiculous for James Diossa to support Moreau as it is for Taveras to support Cicilline.

@George, I think Diossa was sworn in as a councilman in January 2010 and Mark Pfeiffer was appointed Receiver six months later. Not exactly "part of the old regime."

@Edward, Thanks. Even if Diossa is a good honest politician (which I hope he is) I think CF would be better represented by a proffesional town manager.
