NEW: Dems Say Candidate Doherty is in “lockstep” with Far-Right Agenda

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

The state Democratic Party is ramping up its criticism of Republican Congressional candidate Brendan Doherty, who is bringing in Texas Republican Congressman Pete Sessions to Rhode Island to raise money for his campaign.

In a press release sent this morning, the Party called Sessions "one of the biggest cheerleaders for the radical Republican agenda in Congress." The release points to a Sessions' bill that would privatize Social Security and a comment in which he said he failed to understand the problem with insurance companies charging women higher premiums than men.

“It is extremely telling that Brendan Doherty would welcome support from the same Washington Republicans whose policies have devastated the middle-class,” said Rhode Island Democratic Party Chairman Ed Pacheco. "For all his talk of bipartisanship, Doherty’s plan to end the capital gains tax, slash taxes on big corporations, and change Social Security benefits for anyone age 52 and younger puts him in lockstep with the far-right Republicans in Congress. And the last thing Rhode Islanders need is another vote for their agenda.”

I think it's extremely telling that the Democrat Party, the sole party responsible for making the decisions in this state for the last 70 years that has led most of our major cities to the brink of bankruptcy (as well as the state) continues to support liars like David Cicilline (who promised he left the city in "excellent financial condition") and crooks like Sheldon Whitehouse, who was one of the worst AG's in RI history - he refused to prosecute his cronies time and time again, attacked state whistle-blowers with bogus lawsuits to shut them up, then headed off to DC to rant in the senate floor about how conservatives are "right-wing arayan fanatics" just because they don't support Obama bankrupting the country, and also did some insider trading too.

What a bunch of winners the Dems have put up to represent RI.

watching providence

What is so upsetting is the Democratic Party is actually going to stand by David Cicilline, the man who lied about Providence's finances that led to a Category 5 financial hurricane, according to Cicillin'e own ally, Mayor Tavares. The Democrat's should be very, very nervous.

What is Doherty's position on pensions?

Ed Pacheco should step aside from the head of the Democratic Party if he believes Ciciliine shouldn't accept responsibility for his part in the fiscal mess in Providence.

RI Dem

The point is that Doherty would be one more vote for the tea party agenda in Washington. If you agree with what Republicans are doing in Congress than it makes sense to support him. Otherwise, it's just silly to vote for Doherty.

Yes RI Dem, because the Democrats have done so much better. Yes, especially here in Rhode Island where their rule for decades has all but killed this state. Go and kiss your poster on the wall of Cicilline! Perhaps you should live in Providence and enjoy the ride down into the abyss that he is responsible for!

Brendan Doherty is hardly a right wing extremist. He is a sensible, intelligent, honest candidate.
I am sure he has no worries about skeletons in the closet.
David Cicilline is a lying, deceitful scumbag.
My evaluation is based on personal experience with him as a defense atorney while I was employed in law enforcement.
I also had a lot of professional interaction with Brendan Doherty and one couldn't hope for a more decent police officer to work with.
I believe that will carry over into his political behavior.

Joseph Davis

I am a life long Democrat. Before the last election, I never had voted for a Republican. Last election I voted against Cicilline. This time I will campaign against him. We lose credibility when we don't disavow Cicilline. He is an embarrassment to our party. As a party, we need to purge him from our party. He is dragging us down. Chairman Pacheco looks like a fool by supporting him.

Bob Stanley

All I can say to that headline of this article is "Good". Its what we need to have representing RI.
