NEW: Dems Criticize Doherty for Opposing Expansion of Violence Against Women Act

Wednesday, October 03, 2012

The state Democratic Party is accusing Republican Congressional candidate Brendan Doherty of not supporting legislation that would expand and reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act.

“Brendan Doherty talks about being bipartisan and the need to compromise, but with his comments dismissing people ‘in other walks of life,’ he is siding with the Republican right, even though every Republican female senator, among several Republican senators, voted for a bipartisan compromise on this issue,” said Rhode Island Democratic Chairman Ed Pacheco. “We want to send a message to Mr. Doherty that actions speak louder than words.”

Pacheco’s comments come on the same day Doherty is set to host a rally for his female supporters.

Earlier this year, the Senate passed the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (S.1925) by a vote of 68-31 that extended protections to Native Americans, undocumented immigrants and members of the LGBT community. But the House version of the bill did not include those provisions.

It is incomprehesible that Cicilline can make this claim against Doherty with a straight face. Foremost, it is a LIE and has already been addressed weeks ago by the Doherty Campaign.

Secondly, Cicilline, while voting against Meghan's Law in 1996, represented Max Dittleman, then a 17 year old East Greenwich resident in a sexual assault case. Meghan's Law was passed and would have required Dittleman to register as a Sex Offender if convicted.

In 1996, he also represented a man accused of molesting his own 9 year old daughter. If passed, Meghan's Law would have required his registration as well.

Cicilline voted against the law while representing both scum-bums.

Cicilline is a LIAR - like Liz Warren. Who is protecting women and who is representing the criminals? What a sham. Hyers should be ashamed too...

David Allen

Lastly, Ciciline voted with Pelsi 96.9% of the time and says he can "reach across the aisle?" How is that so? He claims some social thing he does with another Republican. However, when it comes to voting time, Cicilline is no Scott Brown (54% with party). Cicilline votes with the leadership...almost all the time 96.9%.

CICILLINE IS A LIAR AND SHOULD NOT BE REWARDED WITH A TRIP TO CONGRESS.

The Violence Against Women Act is a big, fat, red, sham crafted by old leftists to detroy the citizen liberty by allowing any crank, malcontent, or smear artist coward with a law degree the ilk of Girard R. Visconti to lie to public officials in order to violate citizens' liberty and strip them of their possessions and families.

This rotten law had its genesis in 1994, and it's proven to be a Judicial Terrorist's delight since.

If a women 'feels threatened', why can't she take responsibility for her defense? Why encourage a whole new crop of Victims? Because it empowers leftist regimes, that's why.

Who pays? We do. With our liberty, wealth, families, and very lives.
