NEW: Deadline To Apply For Disaster Assistance Is Monday
Friday, September 30, 2011
The deadline for state agencies, local municipalities and nonprofit groups that may be eligible for federal and state disaster assistance to submit Request for Public Assistance (RPA) forms to the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency is Monday, October 3, 2011.
The forms ask for general information which identifies the applicant and is one of the first steps in the Public Assistance (PA) grant process. The PA funds are available to eligible applicants as part of the federal disaster declaration of September 3, 2011 to help communities recover from Tropical Storm Irene during the period of August 27-29, 2011 in Bristol, Kent, Newport, Providence, and Washington counties.
The primary goal of the Public Assistance program, administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and RIEMA, is to provide reimbursement for eligible expenses for emergency response as well as the repair and replacement of damaged public facilities. The PA program does not provide assistance to individuals, households, or businesses.
