NEW: Crews Working on Water Main Break on Cranston/Johnston Line

Providence Water crews are working to repair a water main break on the Cranston/Johnston Line in the area of Plainfield Pike and Mill Street.
The water main break has affected approximately 1,000 customers, who may experience water shut offs, loss of water pressure and possible discoloration of water.
Crews are currently working to pinpoint the exact location of the break using leak detection equipment and will then begin excavation.
The water main is 4-6 feet underground, and the repair has been complicated by frost, extreme cold and large piles of snow.
Cranston and Johnston Police are rerouting traffic in the area as needed.
