NEW: Council to Meet on Achievement First Monday

Friday, December 09, 2011

The Providence City Council Education Subcommittee will meet Monday, December 12, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Providence City Hall, Third Floor to review a draft report on the Achievement First charter school proposal.

The Report recommends that the application be modified to open the first of the two planned schools on the schedule proposed in the application, but to create a window of three years before the second school opens.

This would allow many of the advantages of the new school stated by proponents (more parent choice, examples for the Providence Public Schools, etc.) while mitigating some of the impacts that concern opponents (resources from Providence Public Schools, ability to adapt the Achievement First model successfully to Rhode Island conditions).
