NEW: Community Health Centers to Receive $800K in Federal Funds

Eight different Rhode Island community health centers will each be receiving a federal grant for $100,000, according to an announcement today by Rhode Island’s congressional delegation.
The funding was made available under the Affordable Care Act, and will be coming through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The funds are intended to support efforts by the health centers to adopt more advanced Health Information Technology.
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTThe community centers receiving funding include: The Blackstone Valley Community Health Care, Northwest Community Health Care, Thundermist Health Center, East Bay Community Action Program, Providence Community Health Care, Wood River Health Services Inc., Comprehensive Community Action, and Tri-Town Economic Opportunity Committee.
“As community health centers continue to purchase the technology necessary to improve and expand their health IT systems, this is also an investment that will reach companies throughout Rhode Island and support the state’s economy,” said Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed.
Representative James Langevin echoed Reed’s sentiments, touting the dual benefits of investing in health information technology “As an added benefit, health care IT also represents a growing industry with the potential for local job creation, and these investments can help Rhode Island companies in this field to build up our economy.”
