NEW: Community Groups Support Central Falls Superintendent
Monday, May 30, 2011

In the letter, which is addressed to Board of Regents Chairman George Caruolo, the signatories say Gallo and the Board of Trustees have “prudently managed the school system's resources during a very difficult and tumultuous time,” pointing to the current $2.2 million surplus.
The letter was released just days after the Central Falls Teachers Union overwhelmingly took a vote of no confidence in Gallo and the Board of Trustees—a story that GoLocalProv broke.
Signatories of the letter included the following groups and individuals. (In all there were 32 signatories.)
The Blackstone Academy Charter School
The Learning Community Charter School
Young Voices
The San Miguel School
Blackstone Valley Prep Charter School
Family Services of Rhode Island
Progreso Latino
The Center for Hispanic Policy and Advocacy
Central Falls City Councilman James Diossa
Civil rights leader Malcolm Farmer
FULL TEXT of LETTER
Dear Chairman Caruolo:
We the undersigned Central Falls residents, education leaders, and friends of Central Falls schools write to you today to express our strong support for Superintendent Dr. Frances Gallo and the Central Falls School District Board of Trustees. These dedicated public servants have prudently managed the school system's resources during a very difficult and tumultuous time.
Contrary to politically motivated claims of mismanagement, the Central Falls School Department has a $2.2 million dollar surplus, and these funds should be dedicated to our schools and our students, not to plugging the city's budget deficit.
Central Falls schools no doubt face a number of challenges. We are, however, very confident in the leadership of Dr. Gallo and the members of the Central Falls School Board who are dedicated to sound fiscal management and to transforming our schools into truly great places for students to learn.

Well...Well...Well....first let me start by pointing out the number of charter school supporters....hmmm....and then the question must be.....on what evidence do they base their decision....i can starve my children, default on my mortgage and have quite the surplus in my budget.....does that make it right....

Fuuny that so many charter schools are supporting Gallo. Could it be because they receive money from Central Falls when the students of CF attend the charter schools instead of the public schools. So if Gallo keeps up with this mess then more students will leave the public school and go to the charters and in turn boosting their finances. Of course the support her!
Oh an also the The Learning Community charter SChool has a contract with Central Falls and through this contract the charter school "expert" teachers come into CF schools to show them how to be better teachers!!!!

Notice also that 15 out of the 32 names signed on the letter are from Family Service of RI. They are contracted by Central Falls School District as well.

Family Service is getting tons of $$$ from CF. Who's checking on this conflict of interest?

Sorry folks but those groups/individuals have NEVER set foot in the schools. No secret that she wants to turn Central Falls into the Charter School capital of RI - with many thanks to the taxpayers. Maybe if they knew what kind of "administrator" Gallo was they would think twice. How about a swap, you get Gallo and the district gets a real good janitor?

Farmer, bet no one in CF knows him. CHISPA, shame on you for not knowing that Dr. Gallo has definitely fired more minority teachers and administrators than any of her predecessors. Several other minorities left the district on their own accord. We are not ciegos. We have seen you push out locals and push in your Providence people.

Wow look at the Charter schools line up for the dough. Smell the greed.

Funny, wow none of these supporters have been in the trenches with the teachers and administrators. They have NO idea what it is truly like to work there. Not a shock how all of RI Family Services supports Dr. Gallo. What really happened to Gateway Family Service’s, they serviced the district for years until Dr. Gallo started to contract all of the behavior in the district to her friends… What A Mess....

Unless you work there, you don't know the truth - you are only commenting on the stories of those who have an agenda against the district. Why not ask some who are happy, with their jobs and their administrators, what the real truth is?????? Maybe this publication and all the critics out there are afraid of the truth!!!!!!!!

I remember Gateway. They were educated and certified. They were behavioral specialists.
I remember when they actually worked with the students in small groups.
They were not the glorified hall monitors who are being called behavioral specialists now.

Facts: union janitorial staff replaced by non union group
overpaid retired consultants are making big salaries
overpaid consultant Mass insight have carte blanche expenses and office space.
staff is told that there is little paper available to them
physical plant is not being maintained properly:roof leaks, non working heaters, and fiberglass panels not replaced leaving gaping holes in sections of the High School ceilings.

oh the overpaid retired consultants have never worked in Central Falls and many have never worked in an urban district.
the locals are given jobs to keep them quiet, custodial, behavior specialist, bilingual liasons, bus driver, etc. These are menial jobs that are paid less than what was paid for the time clock that they must use to clock in every day.

The groups on this list (with the exception of some individual names who are not familiar to me) all have a vested interest in Gallo because they have a FINANCIAL stake in her continuing employment as superintendent in CF. Ana Cano-Morales works for the RI Foundation. Maybe there's a link there too! Who knows?
