NEW: Cicilline Blasts Republicans on Middle Class Tax Cuts

U.S. Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement on the importance of the payroll tax cut and federal emergency unemployment compensation and his opposition to HR 3630: {image_1

“The President’s proposals to extend the payroll tax cut and federal emergency unemployment assistance programs would help thousands of Rhode Islanders and millions of Americans stay above water so that they can pay their mortgages, put food on the table and afford their utilities.

“Extending this tax cut for middle class families and unemployment insurance for millions of Americans who cannot find work is critical to these families and our nation’s economy. We should pass these proposals immediately. Rather than doing that, today, House Republicans advanced a bill that contains controversial provisions that ensures it will not pass the Senate or be signed by the President.
