NEW: Cicilline Appointed to Congressional Gun Violence Prevention Task Force
Friday, January 11, 2013
U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) today announced that he was appointed by Chairman Mike Thompson (D-CA) to serve on a congressional Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.
“Our country has a serious and growing problem with gun violence that Congress needs to address,” said Cicilline. “According to a recent Harvard University study, children ages 5 to 14 are 13 times more likely to be killed by a gun than children in other countries. All of us have a moral responsibility to do everything we can to prevent gun violence – I am looking forward to serving on this task force and working to enact legislation that will make our communities safer by keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and the seriously mentally ill.”

Cicilline, a founding member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, recently introduced the Fire Sale Loophole Closing Act , a bill to prevent gun dealers whose licenses are revoked from selling off their inventory without conducting background checks on the purchasers. In addition, Cicilline has supported several other measures to prevent gun violence, including the Fix Gun Checks Act, the Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act, and the Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act.
“The members of our task force have an extensive range of expertise, come from diverse backgrounds and will each bring fresh and different ideas to the table. As a founding member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Congressman Cicilline has extensive experience working to reduce the toll of gun violence,” said Thompson. “Working together, we can put policies in place that reduce and prevent gun violence while also protecting law-abiding individuals’ 2nd Amendment right to own firearms.”
Thompson was named by House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to chair a congressional task force on reducing and preventing gun violence in December, 2012. A comprehensive set of policy proposals will be released by the task force in early February.

This is not a good idea. The congressmistake is already prejudiced against normal people who own guns. He will take those away, while continuing to enjoy the support of those who own guns sans paperwork.

I'm sorry, did I miss something don't we have a police force to deal with these matters, what's a bunch of people in Washington going to do?
Shouldn't it be a Crime Prevention Task Force. Policy proposals should be to keep bad guys off the streets. There done, next question.

He has no problem with illegal alien dope dealers carrying and using illegally obtained guns-he rose to wealth with the blood/drug stained money they put in his little grubby hands-this from personal knowledge, not imagination.
