The event, which will take place Tuesday at the CCRI Warwick Campus, will feature a keynote address on the urgency of innovation by Dr. Howard Fuller, distinguished professor of Education and director of the Institute for the Transformation of Learning at Marquette University. Following the keynote address, attendees will attend breakout sessions of their choosing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM)/Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics (STEAM), Sustainable School Models, Response to Intervention (RtI), Technology/Virtual Learning, Career Exploration, Expanded Learning Time, Community Partnerships and Integrated Arts Programs, as well as participate in roundtable discussions to share best practices.

Leading up to the Consortium, charter public school directors nominated one educator from their school for the Peter McWalters Professional Educator Award, an award given to a charter public school teacher who has shown exceptional dedication in teaching through many criteria, including student performance, inspiration and encouragement of students from all backgrounds, and more. A committee consisting of judges from the government to non-profit sectors reviewed and selected their 2012 winner to be revealed at the Consortium.

This free event is open to educators, parents, and community members. Educators who attend the event can receive two Professional Development Credits (PDCs) through RIDE for their participation. The 2012 Rhode Island Charter Public School Consortium is sponsored by The Rhode Island League of Charter Schools, and The Rhode Island Foundation.
