NEW: Chafee to Co-Chair Obama’s Re-Election Campaign

Governor Chafee has been named a co-chair of President Obama's re-election campaign, the Obama for America campaign announced today.

Chafee made headlines when supported Obama in 2008 and has been encouraged to join the Democratic Party by some national leaders, but he has yet to do so.

During the governor's race in 2010, Obama visited the Ocean State to campaign for then-Congressional candidate David Cicilline, but he refused to endorse Democratic gubernatorial candidate Frank Caprio.
