NEW: Brown Issues Statement on Boston and Sunil Tripathi

Brown University issued the following statement this morning:
"Dear Members of the Brown Community,
We are closely monitoring unfolding events in Boston. There are no related security concerns in Providence and all Brown University operations remain normal.

Overnight many false reports circulated regarding our community member Sunil Tripathi. Reports that he was a possible suspect in the Boston Marathon investigation were untrue and there is no connection between him and the events in Boston. Our thoughts are with the Tripathi family who have had to endure additional pain due to unfounded and irresponsible Internet rumors.
Our thoughts are also with the victims and their families and everyone who has been affected by the incidents in Boston this week, including colleagues at colleges and universities in the Boston area.
There are multiple events taking place at Brown this weekend; as noted above there are no related security concerns about those events nor changes to University operations. The Department of Public Safety and the Office of Student Activities are working closely with student leaders and others to ensure all appropriate and necessary safety measures are in effect, and we are confident that events, including the concerts on the College Green, can proceed as planned.
For Brown community members affected by these events, we are offering drop-in support and advising this afternoon (Friday, April 19) in J. Walter Wilson Room 411 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. Representatives from the Offices of Student Life, the Dean of the College, Chaplains, and Psychological Services will be on hand to provide support, address concerns, and answer questions. After 5 pm today and over the weekend, students with academic, emotional, or psychological concerns can call the Administrator-on-Call at (401) 863-3322."
