NEW: Bill Would Move Teacher Layoff Notifications to June
Tuesday, February 14, 2012
Legislation to move the date by which school districts must notify teachers of potential layoffs will be heard by the Senate Labor Committee tomorrow.
The committee will meet Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the rise of the Senate (around 4:30 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House.
Last year, the March 1 layoff notification date was viewed as one of the primary reasons that Providence Mayor Angel Taveras chose to issue termination notices to every teacher in the city. Every teacher was ultimately rehired.
