Moderate Party Candidate Calls for State Commission for Woonsocket

Sunday, May 09, 2010

Moderate Party gubernatorial candidate Ken Block is calling for the state to establish a budget and review commission in Woonsocket, after the city’s bond rating was downgraded to junk status.

“The citizens of Woonsocket and all the rest of Rhode Island need action now. We can’t afford to wait. The State must establish the commission today,” Block said in a statement. “It is critical that we take all necessary actions to preserve the credit market's confidence in our town’s financial stability.”

In his statement, Block noted that Central Falls recently announced it wanted to declare bankruptcy.

“The state must be proactive in stopping the spread of this fiscal crisis,” Block said.
