Rhode Island's morale lifted this week with the news that pop superstar Taylor Swift had gone ahead an put down $17.75 million dollars on a new home right here in the Ocean State, and coverage of Swift's swift moves into RI real estate was one of GoLocal's most read and shared stories of the week.

The 16-room mansion, called High Watch, comes with more than 5 waterfront acres and was listed for $24 million, according to its listing with Seaboard Properties in Stonington, Connecticut.
As soon as the deal was final, GoLocal consulted with local realtor Arthur Chapman at William Raveis, to see what she'd expect to pay for taxes in her adopted state. With a current assessed value of $12,415,400, and a Westerly tax rate of $9.34 per thousand, Chapman figured, "Taylor has a real estate tax for 2012 of $115,960 or $9,663.32 per month."
