“It is becoming increasingly obvious that Senator Whitehouse will say anything to get reelected. Whether it is his serial hypocrisy regarding taking money from special interests and PAC’s, or his questionable ethics regarding insider trading, it is clear that Senator Whitehouse will say anything to get reelected” said Barry Hinckley, candidate for U.S. Senate. “If our goal as a state and a nation is to create jobs and get this economy back on track, it would seem readily apparent that we need more elected officials with experience creating jobs, and not more career politicians.”

The Buffett Rule would have raised taxes on the richest Americans, but failed to muster enough support to overcome a filibuster in the Senate. Hinckley criticized Whitehouse for using a “political gimmick” to divide the country.

“From the outset, it was evident that this bill was a political gimmick intended to further divide Rhode Island and the country,” he said. “I continue to find it disingenuous that Senator Whitehouse attempted to frame this bill as his way of standing up to the rich and powerful especially when he has been a cheerleader for bailouts and corporate welfare throughout his entire Senate career. Senator Whitehouse has vocally supported multiple bailouts that disproportionately favored big corporations and Wall Street millionaires including the $831 billion stimulus package he championed.”
