Hearing on Wind Farm Bill Wednesday

Tuesday, May 04, 2010

The Senate Committee on Environment and Agriculture will hold a hearing Wednesday on the newly proposed bill to revive the offshore wind farm off Block Island. The hearing will be at the Statehouse at the Rise of the Senate at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The bill, 2010-S-2819, changes the process for reviewing the contract between Deepwater Wind and National Grid. According to the legislation, four state agencies would be charged with reviewing and signing off on the agreement: The Division of Public Utilities and Carriers, the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, the Office of Energy Resources, and the Department of Administration.

The bill was filed last Wednesday, the same day U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced he had approved a wind farm off Massachusetts.
