Gov. Signs Bill to End Greyhound Racing at Twin River
Saturday, May 15, 2010
Gov. Don Carcieri signed a law today repealing the requirement that Twin River have greyhound racing.
“Greyhound racing was a money loser for Twin River and the state,” Carcieri said in a statement. “Relieving the facility from the statutorily required greyhound races is a critical element to bring Twin River out of bankruptcy and put the facility back on sound financial footing.”
Amy Kempe, a spokeswoman for the governor, said the repeal did not pave the way for expanding gaming or the establishment of a casino at Twin River. “It has no such implications,” she told GoLocalProv.
