What’s Happening Now:

Flash Flooding Likely in Parts of Rhode Island.

The main effects from Hurricane Earl in our area will most likely be the potential for localized flash flooding. We are already seeing bands of heavy tropical rains moving across the area with the storm's main rain shield not expected until later this afternoon and tonight.

Most areas should get 1-3 inches of rain but there could be localized totals well in excess of that. Some of the rain will come in heavy bursts over a short period of time and that could overwhelm drainage and catch basins in many neighborhoods. Anyone travelling by car through tonight should do so with care because of the potential for flooded roads in some areas.

I will have more updates this afternoon and tonight.
