Gergen, Ifill to Headline Weekend Conference

Two prominent journalists will headline a weekend conference of the Council of State Governments, which is being held at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

CNN political analyst David Gergen and PBS Managing Editor Gwen Ifill will be the featured speakers at the Council of State Governments’ 2010 National Conference, which will run from Dec. 3 to Dec. 6.

“I am thrilled to welcome the 2010 Council of State Governments’ conference to Rhode Island. This event brings the best and brightest minds to the city of Providence and will showcase our state on a national level,” said Rhode Island House Speaker Gordon Fox. “This weekend, over 500 of the most knowledgeable leaders from various states will trade advanced policy ideas and will work to restore access, quality and efficiency to the health care system.”

Senate President Teresa Pavia Weed said the conference would help the state’s economy.

“It is an honor to host the 2010 Council of State Governments’ conference here in Rhode Island. This is great news for our capital city and our state,” Paiva Weed said. “The four-day conference will give Rhode Island’s hospitality industry a boost and is expected to bring $750,000 to $1 million into our state over the weekend.”
