Fifth Place Top School: South Kingstown High School

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

With consistently impressive test scores on both NECAPs and SATs, South Kingstown earned the final spot in our top five public high schools.  However, the school’s lower graduation rate – the only one below 90% in our top five – prevents it from capturing a higher placement.

Like its peers, South Kingstown goes above and beyond the call of duty in offering its students the best possible educational environment. The school stands out from the crowd in offering Japanese and Italian in addition to staples like French and Spanish. In science, the school builds on foundational courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics with intriguing electives on Meteorology, Biotechnology, and Entomology. Extracurricular outlets run the gamut from the Surf Club to the Science and Mathematics Initiative for Learning Enhancement, or SMILE, which is building an underwater robot, according to the school's Web site.

What's the fourth top school?
