Education Commissioner Weighs in on School Rankings

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Education Commissioner Deborah Gist weighed in yesterday on our rankings of all public high schools in Rhode Island, saying it spurred a healthy public discussion about school performance.

“We are glad to see the media and the public focusing on education and on school performance,” Gist said. “At the Department of Education, we have a real commitment to growth.”

“As we evaluate schools, we will continue to look at progress over time and at what schools do to improve the achievement of each student,” Gist added. “As we accelerate all of our schools toward greatness, we want every school to demonstrate aggressive gains in student achievement and to close achievement gaps.”
