Do You Think Crime in Providence Has Gotten Worse?
- 70 vote - Yes, murders are up 300% over last year
- 16 vote - No, total violent crime is actually down 10%

In contrast, according to Police Dept. data violent crime is decreasing. According to crime statistics provided by the Police Dept., violent crime is down 10 percent, property crimes are down 11 percent and other crimes (which includes weapons offenses, drugs, assault, vandalism and liquor law violations) are nearly identical to where they were last year.
Do you feel safe? Do you think crime is up?

It's hard to say if it's gotten worse or not. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN HORRIFIC.

The appearance that violent crime has increased is only because the liar Esserman under the liar Cicilline had officers fudge the crime stats to make himself and the mayor look good.
Compounding the current situation is the fact the Chief Clements has his hands tied by the stuffed-suit Pare and the worthless Mayor. I feel sorry for Hugh Clements. Pare is overpaid and unnecessary.

pare is a mouthpiece for tavares . nothing more . and, is probably a hinderance to the chief in the deoartments daily operations . the risp realized his shortcomings, dismissed him , and tavares picked him up, as he will do whst he is told for the extremely high pay, and second huge pension . shameful individual.

Taveras's assertions that Providence is a safe city is laughable. A previous poster was 100% correct asserting that former chief Esserman became an expert "forger" in reporting crime statistics.
PPD has lots of good officers, however, many have become responders only, seldom stopping or preventing criminal acts. Seems they're too busy talking on the cell phone with their wrap around sunglasses on. Maybe they think their playing center field at McCoy Stadium?

It's hard to believe any category of crime is lower. Locally-reported break-ins and robberies are way up. Gang violence seems higher. Until an objective third party classifies the facts of each incident (next to impossible), no one will believe the official Providence statistics.

Mr. Taraves has a new plan. Put recently criminalls on the street to stop crime. Am I the only one to get this? Did we forget about the several recent Street Walkers arrested doing more crimes not preventing them. It's just a waste of resources and will hopelessly fail. The new chief should have a free hand to run the police ddepartment. Taraves and Commissioner Makeup"{Pare}, should leave the crime fighing to real offciers. Maybe he should spend the money on buying more police cars. As of now there are over 40 marked cruisers sitting at the repair garage on Bucklin St. collecting dust. Most can't be repaired and are junk donors for the cars still running. Very soon there won't be enolugh cars on the road just to do normal police duties. This isn't Mr. Tavares' fault. We can thank Esserman for buying taxi cabs instead of police cars. Do you feel safe yet?
