DMV Will Be Down on Monday

According to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Administrator Sally Strachan, Rhode Islanders will not be able to access DMV services -- they will be temporarily suspended on Monday, February 21 for a required nation-wide upgrade of the federal computer database.
The nation-wide computer system that allows the DMV to process all driving licenses and IDs will be unavailable from the morning of Saturday, February 19 until 6:00 am on Tuesday, February 22 – which means that DMV customers will only be affected during working hours on Monday, February 21. AAA will be unable to perform the license transactions listed below for the entire period from Saturday through Monday.
The computer upgrade is being performed by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) and will impact all DMV agencies nation-wide.

· Driver licenses, permits, renewals, duplicates, updates
· CDL licenses, endorsements, renewals, duplicates, updates
· State-issued IDs, duplicates, renewals, updates
· Reinstatements of suspended licenses (Operator Control)
· Any driver or CDL permit written testing or endorsements
The system upgrade will not impact road tests that have been scheduled at the DMV’s Melrose Street facility (325 Melrose St., Providence 02907). All road testing scheduled for Monday, February 21, will be done from the Melrose Street facility. At the time of the road test on Monday, successful applicants will have their temporary licenses mailed to them or may make arrangements to pick up temporary licenses from any DMV location after Monday, February 21.
