video: ‘Dancing Cop’ Returns for Holiday Season

As a special holiday gift to the people of Providence, a legend will return to the streets from December 10 to 24. Retired Providence Police Officer Tony Lepore, better known as the "Dancing Cop," will entertain pedestrians and motorists alike with his rhythmic traffic-directing antics between noon and 1:30 p.m. at the following intersections:

Dec. 14 & 15 Broad & Sackett Streets
Dec. 16 & 17 Smith Street & Academy Avenue
Dec. 20 & 21 Thayer & Angel Streets
Dec. 22 & 23 De Pasquale & Atwells Avenue
Dec. 24 Dorrance & Westminster Streets
On the 24th he will also exchange his uniform for a Santa suit and pass out candy canes to passerby.
Lepore has been dancing in the streets since 1984. He retired from the police force in 1989 after 17 years of service, but was re-sworn in as a part-time officer and full-time performer in 1991. He has since appeared on stage at Trinity Rep as well as making popular television appearances including the Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN, and NBC Nightly News.
