Costantino Releases Plan for I-195 Corridor
Thursday, August 05, 2010
Democratic candidate for Providence mayor Steven Costantino is proposing the establishment of a special corporation to oversee the development of nearly 30 acres of land left vacant by the relocation of Interstate 195.
“We have an extraordinary opportunity for new jobs and economic development, but to do it right, we must carefully and wisely construct a strategy that takes into account the entire city,” Costantino said.
Costantino called for the establishment of the Corridor Development Corporation that would coordinate the development of the land. The corporation would be equipped with all the legal and financial tools necessary to get the project moving, Costantino said. Its members would be appointed by the mayor of Providence and the governor.
