Chamber Forum Focuses on the ‘Knowledge Economy’
Wednesday, November 17, 2010

“Today’s forum sends the message that as a community we are committed to intensifying our efforts to unleash the tremendous wealth of talent and assets that exist within the borders of our state,” said Laurie White, president of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce. “It’s clear that we have found success fostering academic-industry collaboration, building entrepreneurial capacity, and facilitating the commercialization of technologies developed by local universities, companies and start-ups. We need to keep up this momentum.”
At the forum, speakers championed the state’s efforts to continue to grow it’s knowledge economy. Treasurer-elect Gina Raimondo said the state could lead the nation in innovation and the knowledge economy. Providence Mayor-elect Angel Taveras said the city should be at the center of the state’s effort to grow its knowledge economy.
“Look at all we have accomplished already,” said Connie Howes, chair of the Innovation Providence Implementation Council and president and CEO of Women & Infants Hospital. “By putting together people’s time and ideas, we can really do something.”
