Chafee Plans to Tackle State Budget in Special Summit
Thursday, December 09, 2010
Governor-elect Lincoln Chafee isn’t waiting until he takes office next month to tackle the state budget problem.
Instead, later this month, he is holding a special state budget summit to “identify and evaluate the causes and solutions” to the state's persistent budget deficit, according to a news release from his transition office.
The summit will be held December 17 at Rhode Island College. It will include representatives from a variety of groups, according to the transition office.

Fiscal stability is essential for job creation and economic growth.”
His office said the summit fulfills one of the promises Chafee made during the campaign.
In the run-up to the event, the Chafee transition team has already held meetings with half a dozen experts—inside and outside of state government—to examine the challenges of the budget process and discuss ways of reducing the deficit.
