BREAKING: Severe Thunderstorms Expected in Southern New England
Thursday, July 26, 2012
The NWS Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma is predicting widespread thunderstorms, beginning in the midwest and extending into Northeast Pennsylvania, New York and Southern New England this afternoon into tonight.
The NWS is also forecasting storms with damaging winds moving from Ohio into the interior of New England this afternoon. Following the severe thunderstorms throughout tonight, the NWS expects Providence to be hammered with thunderstorms through Saturday night, with the potential for more storms on Sunday.
The incoming storms are the result of a surface low-pressure system that is moving eastward from New York and is expected to reach Southern New England by tonight. The area of Southern New England most at risk for severe weather is Western Massachusetts, but the potential for damaging storms exists throughout the region.
