BREAKING: ProCAP Board Members Fired; Mayor Calls for Executive Director to Resign

Citing staggering mismanagement of the Providence Community Action Program (ProCAP), Providence Mayor Angel Taveras today fired three members of the organization’s board of directors and called for Executive Director Frank Corbishley to resign immediately.

Councilman Nick Narducci was among the board members let go today. In addition, Joseph Caffey Jr. and Raymond DeTorre Jr. have been fired from the board.

In a letter hand delivered to Corbishley today, Taveras said the organization’s mismanagement has caused “millions of dollars of agency funding” to be put at risk, which could “endanger jobs, services and our poorest neighborhoods.”

The letter also details a report, prepared by independent assessor Ken Richardson, which found for than $500,000 of funding that were transferred to other accounts rather paying various vendors. Money from Rhode Island Housing and the Temporary Assistance or Needy Families fund were among the funds allegedly misused.

Taveras also announced plan to appoint to new board members. Those individuals include Jeffrey Dana, Christine Spaziano, Delia Rodriguez, and Ani Haroian. Board member Paul MacDonald is remaining on the board.
