BREAKING: North Providence Police Chief Arrested by State Police

The Police Chief of North Providence, Col. John J. Whiting has been arrested by the state police on larceny and obstruction of justice charges.
State Police Col. Steven O'Donnell announced the arrest at a 5 p.m. news conference at state police headquarters in North Scituate.
North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi appointed Whiting as the city's police chief. He began his tenure as Chief in November 2008.
