Trillo Introduces Wisconsin-Style Bill in RI
Saturday, March 12, 2011
State Rep Joseph Trillo, R-Warwick, has introduced a bill that would restrict the collective bargaining rights of unions, similar to what the Governor of Wisconsin has proposed. Trillo’s bill makes an exception for police, fire and correctional personnel.
GoLocalProv first reported that Trillo was considering such legislation.
The Rhode Island Democratic Party today issued a statement condemning the bill.

Trillo's legislation places the current challenges of the state on the backs of one group of workers. It is these types of actions and villianizing of workers that run contrary to the efforts being made toward the shared sacrifices necessary to ensure a more prosperous future for our state and local communities.”
Pacheco said right to organize as a fundamental right for working Americans, saying that Rep. Trillo’s proposal focuses more on partisan tactics than on creating sensible solutions to the fiscal crisis.
UPDATE: Trillo could not be reached for comment yesterday evening.
