BREAKING NEWS Taylor Concedes Race to Mollis
Wednesday, November 03, 2010
Republican candidate for Secretary of State Catherine Taylor has officially conceded the race to incumbent Democrat Ralph Mollis.
The concession comes the day after vote tallies showed the race between the two was the closest of the statewide races. Taylor came within roughly one percentage point of Mollis, garnering 49.4 percent of the vote to 50.6 percent for Mollis.
“I heartily congratulate Secretary Mollis on his victory in this hard-fought election,” Taylor said in a statement released this afternoon. “Given the close margin in this race – 1.2 percent – and the importance of counting every vote, especially in the contest for chief election officer, Secretary Mollis and I agreed last night that we would look at the numbers with fresh eyes again this morning.”

I heartily congratulate Secretary Mollis on his victory in this hard-fought election.
Given the close margin in this race – 1.2 percent – and the importance of counting every vote, especially in the contest for chief election officer, Secretary Mollis and I agreed last night that we would look at the numbers with fresh eyes again this morning.
We have done so, and I am confident that every vote has been counted and every voice has been heard.
I sincerely thank the 162,071 voters who entrusted me with their vote, and all Rhode Islanders for giving this political newcomer their consideration.
I have offered Secretary Mollis my support in accomplishing our mutual priorities: Putting the General Assembly’s votes online, eliminating the master lever, and looking at how to cut red tape with a business-oriented perspective.
I look forward to finding a way to be of service to the people of Rhode Island in some capacity in the future.
The Mollis campaign has not yet issued a formal response.
