BREAKING NEWS: Cicilline, Taveras and Kilmartin win
Wednesday, September 15, 2010
David Cicilline, Angel Taveras and Peter Kilmartin were all big winners in the Democratic primary held on Tuesday. Despite low turnout and a lack of excitement across the Democratic party, each of these winners fought through complex and competitive races. The win by Angel Taveras gives him a clear path to being Providence's first Hispanic Mayor. Taveras will face Independent Jonathan Scott in November.
Providence Mayor David Cicilline defeated three competitors to win the Democratic nod, but his 37% opens the door for John Loughlin of the GOP to make a claim that this seat is highly compatitive and may be a target seat in the battle to control Congress.
Peter Kilmartin won a hard fought three-way primary against Joe Fernandez and Stephen Archambault. Kilmartin garnered 40.1% to Archambault's 33.6 and Fernandez' 26.3%.
