Boston, Watertown and surrounding areas have been locked down after violent shooting at MIT.

Governor Deval Patrick addressed the media regarding the suspect at large in the Boston Marathon bombings and last night's stream of violent crimes, resulting in one officer critically injured, one killed in the line of duty and one suspect deceased.

"There is a massive manhunt underway," said the Governor. "A lot of law enforcement involved in that." Stay indoors with the doors locked and do not open the doors to anyone other than a properly identified law enforcement officer."

"One suspect one is dead," he said. "Suspect two is on the run. We had an MBTA officer seriously wounded and in surgery right now. An MIT security officer who has been killed. This is serious. We are asking the public to take it seriously. We are asking you to assist law enforcement by following those simple instructions."

Boston Police commissioner Ed Davis called on residents of the Commonwealth to stay at home and remain vigilant during this on-going situation. This is a rapidly developing situation" he said. "Within the last half hour we have received information that I have communicated to Mayor Menino. Mayor Menino asked me to come here and to tell you that the shelter in place recommendation has been extended throughout the City of Boston."

"We are working very closely with Federal authorities in Wshington. We are examining all databases, all potential leads and there are officers that are moving around the city right now," Davis said.

Colonel Timothy Alben of the Massachusetts State Police also addressed the media. "Our number one priority is with these neighborhoods here in Watertown and making them safe and finding this individiual.

"That's what we're committed to and we need more time. We're making significant progress out there but it may take hours to do this. For right now this is about public safety," Alben said. This is about the Watertown neighborhood."
