Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum has exceeded the $3-million mark in its capital and endowment campaign. The total funds raised for Cultivating the Future: The Campaign for Blithewold reached $3,077,000.

A reception will be held for donors on October 5.

"Because of the extraordinary generosity of many donors, volunteers, the board of directors, the trustees of The Champlin Foundations, and a significant challenge grant presented by Mrs. Dorrance H. Hamilton of Newport and Philadelphia, we are announcing the successful conclusion of the public phase of this worthy endeavor," said Arthur Parker of Barrington, the campaign co-chair with Joan Abrams of Bristol.

"Blithewold is a welcoming place for family and friends to enjoy. Our projects will improve and enhance the Blithewold experience for all." Abrams added.

Capital projects that are completed include updating the smoke and fire alarms; creating a handicapped accessible path, ramp and restrooms; installing climate control in the archival storage area, reconstructing a 450-square foot addition to the Greenhouse Complex; and restoration of the Blithewold Dock.

The most significant project, which will begin in mid-October, is the construction of a 1160 square foot Special Event Pavilion behind the existing Special Event tent. This will house a bridal changing suite and ADA accessible bathrooms for men and woman. This marks the first major construction project on the property since the early 1900s. The project required several approvals both at the state and local level. The next phase of construction will include an expanded Visitor Center with design work starting this winter.
