Rhode Island DCYF Suspends Tender Care Learning Center License

The Rhode island Department of Children, Youth and Families has suspended the operating license for the Tender Care Learning Center in Newport, RI, following an investigation into an alleged sexual assault of a child.

DCYF began its investigation of the facility at 38 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard on Wednesday, August 14.  During the course of the investigation, DCYF uncovered information pertaining to regulatory violations.

Pursuant to its authority as the licensing agent for child care centers and its child protective service responsibilities, DCYF Director Janice DeFrances ordered the immediate license suspension, and the facility is currently closed.
