A new Web tool was launched by the advocacy group OSTPA - the new Web site links the failure of the General Assembly and the Rhode Island economy. The new site is www.OSTPA1.com.

"For OSTPA it’s all about RI’s economy, education system and good government. The new website connects the dots to create that illusive picture that shows how the General Assembly’s actions translate into RI’s poor economy," said a statement issued on Thursday evening.

The site features: profiles of General Assembly Members - Now, in one place, that users can see the source of contributions and the employment of the officials elected. Also, the user can also see how they have voted on what OSTPA considers the most important bills that have faced the General Assembly in the past two sessions.

"Given the latest scandal against transparency in government with the tactics Speaker Fox employed regarding a possible death knell for Ethics Reform, it is imperative that the voting public understands who contributes to their Representative and Senator, and whether or not that elected official is or has been employed by the special interest public unions," said OSTPA.

"There are many teachers, firefighters, policemen and city workers sitting in the General Assembly who would appear to have a conflict of interest when voting on bills that relate to public unions and pensions, binding arbitration, perpetual contracts and many other bills that serve only public union households. Weekly Alerts - Additionally, you will find the Sunday Legislative Alerts that OSTPA has become known for in the past two years. There is a wealth of information in these Alerts that connects the dots between the actions of the legislature and the bills that become law, to the impact they have on the RI economy. The goal of the OSTPA Weekly Legislative Alert is to provide the portal for all taxpayers to take action on specific issues happening in the coming week that have a direct impact on RI’s economic recovery, or, unfortunately for its citizens, the lack of recovery.

Our Position on the Issues – Our web site provides OSTPA’s legislative agenda, which summarizes the critical financial, education, and good government issues on which we base our work. Viewers can access the written testimony OSTPA submits to the individual House and Senate Committees. Our testimony provides the reasons for our position on the most important bills introduced in the General Assembly. While many people read the stories of the day in the local media, OSTPA explains these connections and allows you to access them any time.

Continually Growing - Our plans for the future include reporting the sponsors of important pieces of legislation, along with any new votes taken on significant bills in the 2013 session, both in committee and on the chamber floor.

"Our hope is that the general public utilizes the information on OSTPA’s new website as a source to stay informed, as a means to make the connections between our government and our pocketbook, and more importantly, to take action," said the release.
