NEW: Plain Arrested, Threatens Police - “Friends with Chief”

Publisher of RIFuture Bob Plain was arrested by East Greenwich police after a routine stop on September 11, 2013. During the police interview, Plain threatened the police office that "he was friend with Chief Coyle." In addition, when asked about marijuana in the vehicle, Plain said the marijuana was not his "it was his girlfriends" according to the East Greenwich Police Report.

East Greenwich Police report filed by Patrolman Patrick McCoy reports that, " Upon approaching the vehicle I smelled a strong odor of fresh marijuana. I approached the operator and requested his drivers license, registration, and proof of insurance. The operator identified himself as Robert Plain and stated he did not have his wallet on his person.."

"Girlfriend's Marijuana"

"Plain stated the marijuana (in the car) was not his however, it is his girlfriends. I advised Plain he is the sole operator of the vehicle therefore he is liable for anything and everything located in the vehicle," according to the police report.

Friends with Chief

Plain who previously was a reporter and editor in East Greenwich and is a native of the town threatened the police officer according to the report. "Plain began to have a poor attitude with me and threatened me stating he was friends with Chief Coyle...," said the report.

This afternoon, Plain confirmed these details to GoLocalProv. He said he was “at a wedding,” needed to tend to something, and would “call right back.”
