65-Year-Old Smithfield Resident Dies in Fatal Crash on Interstate 295, Reports RI State Police

Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, reports that a Smithfield resident died in a single-car crash on Interstate 295 in Cumberland at approximately 1:15 a.m. today.
The driver is identified as John Jenkins, age 65, of 22 Ernest St., Smithfield and he was driving south on Interstate 295 when his car went off the road south of Exit 20 in Cumberland.
According to the State Police, the car went into the median, striking several trees.

Troopers from the Scituate Barracks and the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating the cause of the crash.
